wine club team

Mike Osborn and Michelle Rau make sure our club wines deliver on the promises of great taste and value. Mike, who was the General Manager at WillaKenzie Estate Winery in Oregon, knows the best wines and the best values better than anyone. As Wine.com’s Founder and Vice President of Merchandising, Mike oversees the company's entire wine selection. Michelle hand picks our club wines each month and thoughtfully crafts all of our tasting notes. She applies her years of experience working in the California wine country to help you understand and appreciate the wines you are tasting.

Favorite wine region: Pacific Northwest - from Oregon Pinot Noir to Walla Walla Merlot - it's in my blood.

Best wine memory: I have so many fond memories from touring wine regions, to everyday occasions with wine. To pick one, I guess it would have to be recent. Last Fall, I toured the Rhone Valley. During one afternoon, the Perrin Family of Chateau de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf du Pape hosted me and friends traveling from Washington, D.C., New York and Tallahassee, Florida. Learning of their passion, for decades, for organic farming underscored the adage that "healthy wine starts with healthy vines."

My favorite club to give: I favor Wines of the World for the variety of wines.

Favorite wine region: Italy. There is so much diversity within Italy and the wines get better every year. Wine is made all over the country and there is truly something for everyone. Outside of wine and food, it’s also a beautiful country to visit!

Best wine memory: My first visit to any wine country was Tuscany. I had the chance to hand pick grapes, watch them being crushed, meet the family who owned the winery and enjoy an unforgettable lunch on the property overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany. After that day, I knew wine would forever be a big part of my life.

My favorite club to give: Wines of the World. You get to taste wines from all of the major wine regions and learn about that area. I know how intimidating it can be when you are in a wine shop wanting to try new regions but you don't know any of the wineries. Well, this club picks the best for you. It’s a fun, easy way to try to new wines that are winners from each region.

Favorite wine region: Alsace is at the top of my list these days for white wines. Steely, acidic, dry, but well rounded. Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are my favorite dinner whites. As for reds, I’ve been drinking lots of Oregon Pinot Noir these days.

Best wine memory: I visited Clos Apalta winery in Chile and was lucky enough to taste through several vintages with the winemaker. She took us on a tour of the beautiful facility and then we went horse back riding through the vineyard. Amazing!

My favorite club to give: 90 Point Rated. These wines are chosen with great care and are of extremely high quality. These are often wines not readily available in many areas, so it's a great opportunity to expand your palate and learn about amazing wines from all over the world.

Kosher wine
Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
Green wine
Green Wines
Wines that use sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic practices in the vineyard and/or winemaking process. We rely on a number of U.S. and International certifications to qualify wines "green."
Collectible wine
Collectible
These wines will improve from additional bottle age, when properly stored, and may show the greatest potential to increase in value.
Great Wine Gifts
Great Wine Gifts
These selected wines make impressionable gifts for wine enthusiasts and oenophiles alike.
Boutique Wines
Boutique Wines
These wines are made in limited quantities and are typically produced from single vineyard sources or made by small, artisanal wineries. While the winery may produce larger quantities, we limit wines with this designation to a 1,000 case production.

About Professional Ratings

These wine ratings are based on a 100-point quality scale, and are selected by each publication's unique criteria. Some wine ratings are expressed as ranges. When this occurs we will list the highest score in the range and note the full range within the tasting note.

While ratings may influence your decision, the ultimate judgment is your palate.
