winemaker's notes:

Deep ruby red color. Scents of raspberry, redcurrant and tea. Well balanced in spices and red fruits. Very persistent and with mild tannins and finish. Intense and rich wine for long ageing

critical acclaim:

"This is an expertly crafted Merlot that offers much in terms of intensity, charm and personality. You could drink it with a fork and knife because its concentration is dark, plush and extracted with care. Pristine aromas of flower petal, red fruit, molasses and spice are rounded off by an outstanding mouthfeel consisting of extraordinary length and polished tannins. -"

Wine Enthusiast

"Wonderful aromas of crushed raspberry, strawberry and hints of vanilla follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long finish. Silky. Hard to resist already. Pure Merlot. Almost impossible to find. Best after 2008. 750 cases made."

Wine Spectator

"The 2003 Messorio (100% Merlot) is simply stunning. Voluminous and expansive on the palate, it offers rich layers of jammy dark fruit, plums, cassis and toasted oak with extraordinary length and an utterly seductive personality. While it may not have the complexity or detail of the very finest vintages, it does offer much pleasure in the very ripe style of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2015."

93 Points

The Wine Advocate

"Dark red. Enticing aromas of blackberry, ground coffee and black pepper, with a definite herbal twist. Brooding and muscular on the palate, offering a rare combination of elegance and power, thanks to ripe acidity and sweet tannins. This is always the most tannic of Le Macchiole's wines, a characteristic Campolmi believes is due to the soil."

Kosher wine
Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
Green wine
Green Wines
Wines that use sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic practices in the vineyard and/or winemaking process. We rely on a number of U.S. and International certifications to qualify wines "green."
Collectible wine
Collectible
These wines will improve from additional bottle age, when properly stored, and may show the greatest potential to increase in value.

Great Wine Gifts

Boutique Wines
These wines are made in limited quantities and are typically produced from single vineyard sources or made by small, artisanal wineries. While the winery may produce larger quantities, we limit wines with this designation to a 1,000 case production.

About Professional Ratings

These wine ratings are based on a 100-point quality scale, and are selected by each publication's unique criteria. Some wine ratings are expressed as ranges. When this occurs we will list the highest score in the range and note the full range within the tasting note.

While ratings may influence your decision, the ultimate judgment is your palate.
